Eleven patterns
Small enough to hold cloth, knowledge and spare parts for all of them.
Eleven garments, made in small runs, repaired free for as long as you own them.
Halcyon Thread was started in 2019 by a pattern cutter who had spent six years watching perfectly good sample garments be destroyed at the end of each season because holding them was more expensive than binning them.
The response was a business built the other way around. Few patterns, held for years, remade in whatever good cloth a mill has actually got. It means we cannot promise you the same coat in the same colour next year, and it means we can promise to mend the one you have for as long as you keep it.
Eight people work in the cutting and sewing room above the old printworks. Nothing is outsourced, not because outsourcing is inherently wrong, but because the repair guarantee needs the pattern knowledge to stay in the building.
We publish the cost breakdown of every garment: cloth, trims, cut-make, and our margin. It occasionally makes for awkward reading when a cloth price rises, but having published it once we cannot reasonably stop.
Small enough to hold cloth, knowledge and spare parts for all of them.
Free mending for the life of the garment, postage out is all you pay.
Cloth, trims, labour and margin printed on every product page.
Founder and pattern cutter
Six years in sample rooms before starting this one.
Repair workshop
Has mended over two thousand garments and keeps notes on each.
Cloth sourcing
Buys mill lots, which is why our colours are never quite repeatable.
For a repair, write first and we will send you the return details. For sizing, tell us your usual size in a brand you already own and we will tell you honestly how ours compares, including when the answer is that we do not fit you well.
