Privacy Policy

Halcyon Thread is a small operation and this policy is written to be read rather than skimmed past. It sets out exactly what information we collect when you use this website, why we collect it, how long we keep it and what you can tell us to do with it. If anything here is unclear, write to workshop@halcyonthread.example and a person will answer you.

This policy was last reviewed on 30 March 2026. Where we make a material change we will update this date and describe the change in the section at the foot of the page.

Who we are

Halcyon Thread Workshop Ltd trades as Halcyon Thread and operates this website. Our registered correspondence address is Second Floor, The Old Printworks, 26 Calder Street, Marrowfield, Ingleby IG5 3PW. You can reach us by email at workshop@halcyonthread.example or by telephone on +44 141 496 0332 during our published opening hours. We are the data controller for the information described on this page, which means we decide what is collected and why.

Information you give us directly

The only routine way we receive personal information is when you choose to send it, using the contact form on this site or by writing to us directly. The contact form asks for your name, your email address, a subject and your message. Your name and email address are needed so that we can reply; the rest is whatever you decide to tell us.

We ask you not to include information you would not want held in an ordinary email inbox. If you need to give us something sensitive, say so in your first message and we will arrange a better route than a web form.

Measurements you give us for hemming or alteration are held against your order so that a future repair can be matched to the garment we actually cut for you. You can ask us to erase them at any time and we will do so without asking why, though it will mean re-measuring for any later alteration.

Information collected automatically

This site is built as plain static files. There is no account system, no behavioural advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking pixel embedded in these pages. We do not set cookies for advertising, profiling or cross-site measurement.

Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, as every web host does. Those logs record the IP address making a request, the page requested, the time of the request and the browser's user-agent string. They exist so that the host can operate the service securely and diagnose faults, they are not linked to any other information we hold, and we do not use them to build a picture of individual visitors.

This site does include a live chat widget on its home page, provided by a third-party chat service. If you open the chat and send a message, that service processes your message and any details you type into it under its own privacy terms as well as ours. If you do not open the chat, no conversation data is created. You are welcome to email us instead if you would rather not use it.

Why we are allowed to hold it

Where you write to us, we rely on legitimate interests: you have contacted us expecting a reply and answering you is the obvious and expected use of what you sent. Where we need information to perform something you have asked us to do, we rely on the performance of that arrangement. Where we are required to keep records for tax or accounting purposes, we rely on our legal obligation to do so.

We do not rely on consent for marketing you have not asked for, because we do not send marketing you have not asked for.

How long we keep it

Correspondence is kept for as long as it is useful to the matter it concerns and is then deleted. In practice that means routine enquiries are removed within twelve months of being resolved. Anything forming part of a financial record is retained for six years because we are obliged to keep it that long.

You may ask us to delete your correspondence sooner and we will do so unless a legal obligation requires us to keep a particular record, in which case we will tell you which record and why.

Who else sees your information

Our email provider and our website host process information on our behalf, under contract, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. The live chat provider processes chat conversations if you start one. Beyond those, nobody outside our own team sees what you send us.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers or marketing networks. We would disclose information if a court or a regulator with proper authority required it of us, and we would tell you that we had done so unless we were legally barred from telling you.

Your rights

You have the right to ask what we hold about you and to receive a copy; to have inaccurate information corrected; to have information erased where we have no continuing need for it; to object to our processing on legitimate interests grounds; and to ask us to restrict what we do with it while a dispute is resolved.

To exercise any of these, write to workshop@halcyonthread.example. We will respond within thirty days and we will not charge you. We may ask a question or two to confirm we are dealing with the right person before releasing anything. If you are unhappy with our answer you may complain to the relevant supervisory authority in England and Wales, though we would rather you told us first and gave us the chance to fix it.

Keeping it safe

Access to our email and website systems is limited to the people who need it, protected by strong unique passwords and two-factor authentication. This site is served over an encrypted connection. No system is perfect, and if a breach ever occurred that presented a real risk to you, we would tell you and the supervisory authority within the required timescales rather than hoping it went unnoticed.

Children

This website is intended for adults and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Links to other sites

Where we link to another organisation's website, that link is provided because we think the destination is useful. We have no control over how those sites handle your information and this policy does not extend to them.

Changes to this policy

If our practices change, this page changes with them and the review date at the top is updated. Material changes will be summarised here so returning visitors can see what moved.
